Why Analog Weekends

The idea of Analog Weekends was born from our Locals Know it Best project where we challenged ourselves to go on a tech free adventure, just locals and our deck of Locals Know it Best cards.

We chose the idea of weekend format because it is the easiest time to disconnect from the internet. Holidays are perfect laboratories for new ideas for living so a weekend could be the first step towards living a life that's less digital, more analog. I think the journey to analog is a gradual process for many and we hope Analog Weekends will inspire us and also motivate you to think about going analog and digital minimalism.

The idea was also partly inspired by one of my favourite movies, Before Sunrise. This movie perfectly captures the magic of analog and slow travel: 24 hours wandering Vienna with no phones, no GPS, no plan, connecting with locals wherever possible, and having an adventure.

We also feel this is a good time to pitch the idea, especially with what they are dubbing 'The Great Exhaustion' thanks to the overload of tech and AI in our lives.

It is brilliant that we live in an era where we have all these powerful tools and I definitely feel AI when used the right way and for the right reasons, can be fantastic. I do feel that someway along the way, we have become overtly reliant on tech to plan our holidays and we also seem to unable to switch off when we are on holidays. This idea, is one way we can reclaim some of our mental health and recapture some of the magic of holidays of old.

The plan is to go on a series of slow weekend breaks over the next calendar year where we explore the concept of going tech-free for a weekend and discovering the destination. 

Our hope is that Analog Weekends project will give people inspiration and a framework.

Will be document the weekends via pen, pad, and analog camera.
